Week 3: Return of the Jib

We have just finished a very productive week both inside and outside the studio with the script coming together nicely, camera cards to be typed up and printed in due course. Slight problem when Stuart (John) dropped out but it happens sometimes! best of luck to Stuart in his new job. We had a nearly full cast read through of the new script which went very well.

I had the chance to experiment with the HD handheld camera creating a slow motion effect which we hope will look good in the final edit. I’m confident of the setting to help the editors acheieve this effect.

Friday saw us return to filming with the interview scenes which went well despite struggling to use the JIb camera effectively, as weeks go by I’m sure this will improve and I’m sure was an off day! The producer has asked us to come up with one thing we did well and two things to improve.

1 thing we did well: Lighting was very good today with the interviews lit effectively.

2 things to improve: The JIB camera was not as productive and smooth as it has been previously but with time I will get back into it again and actors need to be spread out during the time allocation we have so they are not sitting around for ages which we will organise soon.

Productive Week! Still lots to improve on though (the jokes dried up on Friday! Sorry Guys!)

Week 1, meetings, meetings meetings

After a team building bowling game our group appears to be on the right tracks:
– I have had a meeting with all the producers to establish what flats, etc we want – we have got just what we wanted (perfect).
– i have a meeting with Gary and Steve about greenscreening, and after initially volunteering to help paint and pay for the new fabric flats they have bought us a huge piece of greenscreen fabric (AHH! HOW GOOD IS THAT)
– I have had a meeting with Director and PA and come up with a shooting scedule
– We have had two full group meetings to report on progress (as lack of communication was our weak link last year) during this meeting each subteam reported on progress, new targets were set and we have a filming date set.

We will be having a full cast and crew meeting on Tuesday, along with rehearsals if time and then another meeting on Friday with the cast depending on their availability.

By next week I hope to have come up with dates for filming, a calender for all the actors, locations for our opening ceremony and continue to support the group.

🙂 much improvement from last year guys

Week Zero – going 30 mph, lets move it up a gear.

This week we have reviewed the TV series Sherlock and This is England (although some people are still to do this – and for all our aims and objectives this is not getting off to a good start).
We have set our objectives, created this blogs and really moved it up a gear (currently we are probs in second gear, lets speed up and get up into fifth gear! – love a good car metophor)
Shiv has created sets and talks between the groups looks set to improve – especially with this blog. Communication within the groups is just as imporant as communication with seperate groups.

I am setting targets on the blog to make sure people are reading it and the first one is that every posts a blog on here about last week before the 18th Janurary. Our main targets the coming week are to keep up the communication, start looking at other ways of creating the unusal shots we want, get close to completing script and first drafts of all sets. The main points of improvment are camera work, unsure audio and lighting and time organisation.

With our supergroup (yes i know we are super!) is all sorted and things look set to create a great project if we can keep up motivation and commitment.
